About Us

In 2012, a few industrious Bengalis came together, over an adda, to create an organisation which would foster the culture of Bengal in Pimple Saudagar, Pune and thus Oikyotan Bangiya Parishad was born

At that time, Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, and its surrounding areas were still developing. Many Bengali families moved into the upcoming residential areas of Pimpri Chinchwad due to the proximity to the IT, manufacturing, and engineering industry. Missing the adda, Pujo, and club activities, they all needed a platform. Thus came the idea of Oikyotan Bangiya Parishad (OBP). The founders felt that the club should not only organize the highly revered Durga Puja but also promote art, showcase Bengali food and culture, conduct activities that have social impact, etc. Soon, OBP was a household name in all Bengali families in Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, and surrounds. It grew leaps and bounds with all the love from its members and support from the patron and sponsors.

Over the years, its members excelled in bringing together immersive plays, conducted extravagant dance shows, organized performances by popular Bengali artists, lined up drool-worthy food stalls with Bengali cuisine, bhog during Pujo, etc. Soon, OBP became known as the Pujo with lots of space! Thanks to the well-planned layout and ample parking space. And, for those four to five days, the kitchen at our homes were put to rest. With luchi-aloor dum and bhoger kichudi at the pandal, who would want to cook at home? Scores of volunteers would come together to serve thousands of Bengali gastronomes. Well, that's not all true, we do have devotees from other linguistic backgrounds too.

Apart from the cultural events, OBP and its members were always ready to contribute to the society. Whether it was supporting a blind school or the poor with saree donation or the COVID19 affected sections of our society, we joined hands to do our bit. Our members promptly ran a fund-raising program and helped the marginalized section of our society. Moreover, we quickly formed a support group to help the affected members not only with logistics but also the much-needed assurance that OBP is with its members even on a rainy day.

In short, together we stand and together we celebrate!
